Description

Introduction The transition that students make from high school to college is important and relevant in regard to student retention. According to the National Center for Education Statistics (2003), 55% of students who begin their education at a 4-year institution complete their bachelor's degree within 6 years at the institution in which they first enrolled. When individuals who transfer schools at some point during their undergraduate work are included, this rate increases to 63%. However, this still leaves a significant number of individuals who do not complete their bachelor's degree. Studies have suggested that when students withdraw from universities it is often for personal reasons, including adjustment to college (Toews & Yazedjian, 2007).
